Shalini is a doctoral candidate at Graphic Era University, where she is studying assessment of traditional knowledge and conservation of natural resources. Her research focuses on the socioeconomic status and indigenous knowledge of the Bhotiya community, which lives in the Johar Valley in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. She made a substantial contribution to the sustainable protection of natural resources in the area and the preservation of indigenous knowledge by learning about their relationship with the resources and by going deeply into their traditional practices. more than five years of extensive expertise working on projects including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), with an emphasis on livelihood creation and the services provided by forest ecosystems. It may have highlighted how important Van Panchayats are to community-based efforts to conserve natural resources, which in turn supports sustainable development methods.
