Abha Purohit, passionate for bee conservation and research is evident in her dedication to long-term monitoring, community engagement, and scientific advancements such as developing a DNA barcode database of Himalayan bumblebees. Her doctoral research on species diversity and molecular study of bees (Bombus and Xylocopa) in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. She highlights the pollination biology, ecology and importance of these pollinators especially in the agro-ecosystem in the western Himalayan region. Her focus on long-term monitoring, diversity assessment, and conservation practices involving community participation is commendable, especially given the threats posed by global warming and climate change. The implementation of citizen science approaches to educate local communities, school children, and farmers about bee conservation is a crucial step towards sustainability. Additionally, her work on developing a DNA barcode database for these bees contributes significantly to our understanding and conservation efforts. Her presentation at the International Mountain Conference at university of Innsbruck, Austria in 2022 reflects the global relevance and recognition of her research on bumblebees.
